VEGETARIANISM: IS NOT
ENOUGH

NOTE. THIS SECTION CONTAINS GRAPHIC FOOTAGE.

Many people have made the decision to become vegetarian, realising that killing animals, including fish and other marine life, is cruel and unnecessary. This is a great step in the right direction, but let vegetarianism be as brief a stepping stone on the path to veganism as possible. The resources on this page can open your eyes to the unimaginable cruelty that is standard practice within the dairy and egg industries.

THE FATE OF THE CALF

Recent industry figures indicate that around 400,000 unwanted dairy calves, not wanted for herd replacement or rearing for pink veal, are slaughtered each year in Australia as ‘waste-products’ of the dairy industry — usually at around the tender age of  5 – 6 days old. So is Vegetarianism a moral & healthy way of living ? Does a vegetarianism lifestyle support cruelty to animals ? Vegetarian defined: 1. a person who does not eat meat or fish, or sometimes other animal products, especially for moral or health reasons.

Dairy cows, like any mammal, need to fall pregnant to produce milk. They are repeatedly artificially inseminated, often restrained in a device known as a “rape rack,” where they will experience an arm inserted into their rectum and a long metal probe inserted into their vagina.

“The very saddest sound in all my memory was burned into my awareness at age five on my uncle’s dairy farm in Wisconsin. A cow had given birth to a beautiful male calf…On the second day after birth, my uncle took the calf from the mother and placed him in the veal pen in the barn—only ten yards away, in plain view of his mother. The mother cow could see her infant, smell him, hear him, but could not touch him, comfort him, or nurse him. The heartrending bellows that she poured forth—minute after minute, hour after hour, for five long days—were excruciating to listen to. They are the most poignant and painful auditory memories I carry in my brain.”

Cows are hooked up to machines around 3 times a day to be sucked dry, which always leads to painful infections, such as mastitis. As a result of this, dairy contains a large amount of pus (or somatic cells). After repeating the cycle of impregnation and milking, dairy cows become worn out and unable to produce profitable quantities of milk. Cows can normally live to be over 20 years old, but spent dairy cows are often killed at around 4-5 years old. Fortunately, there are many non-dairy alternatives, so there is no need to contribute to the dairy industry.

Animals want to feed, nurture and protect their babies, exactly as humans do. Cows are extremely gentle and affectionate animals. Just like humans, they form strong bonds with one another, particularly between mother and child. Its time to see the separation of mother and baby & to ask ourselves if this is wrong.

“Animals urgently need all vegetarians to become informed of these standard industry practices and to avoid supporting such cruelty. Lets reveal more of the truth that has been kept hidden from us all, with a video giving an overview on the de-horning, removal of tails, babies stolen from mother cows, slaughter of male calves, the rape rack, treatment of cows, male chicks being ground up alive, de-beaking, clipped wings, slaughter as babies and free-range. Animals urgently need all vegetarians to make the swift transition to becoming vegan.”

Dairy and Health

Having become informed of the cruelty in the dairy industry, it is time to consider the health issues related to its consumption. Michael Greger, M.D., is a physician, author, and internationally recognized speaker on a number of important public health issues. All proceeds from his speaking engagements and the sale of his books and DVDs are donated to his nonprofit NutritionFacts.org, the first science-based, non-commercial website to provide free daily videos and articles on the latest discoveries in nutrition.

THE CRUELTY OF EATING EGGS

It is routine for one day old male chicks to be ground-up alive and gassed. This is the disturbing reality faced by hundreds of thousands of chicks each day. This footage from a hatchery in Spencer, Iowa, shows what is still standard industry practice all over the world. This includes `free-range` and `barn laid` eggs. All male chicks are killed.

If you Need more convincing to believe the horrors forced on innocent hens and chicks in the egg industry, we recommend this video by Erin Janus.

Eggs and Health

We hear many vegetarians state: ‘I gave up eating meat, but my iron levels were low, so I had to go back to eating meat’. Our response: ‘Dairy and eggs inhibit iron absorption’. Please pay close attention to:

What’s Wrong With Eggs? The Truth About The Egg Industry

Now to consider more health issues related to eating eggs. The egg industry has misled us to believe that eggs are a nutritious health food that are essential for the human body, although it is actually illegal to advertise eggs as healthy or safe. Eggs are very high in fat, saturated fat and cholesterol, which will increase the risk of heart disease and can cause other serious health problems like diabetes.

Currently the Director of Public Health and Animal Agriculture at theHumane Society of the United States (HSUS) and Humane Society International, Dr. Michael Greger’s is a noncommercial, science-based source for the latest in nutrition profiled in hundreds of short engaging videos. Here are a series of short videos exposing eggs as detrimental to human health.
